The Hong Kong Prize Gives Young People a Platform to Express Their Talent

The Hong Kong Prize competition provides young people with an opportunity to showcase their talent, with cash prizes, travel expenses, and other perks awarded as rewards. You must meet certain criteria in order to participate, but once accepted into this event you will have a platform from which to showcase your skills and ideas to key stakeholders in development sector.
This year’s nominees included activists fighting for freedom and democracy – including some who had to endure arrest or even jail terms for their struggle; social justice groups that offer shelter to homeless adults; community service initiatives ranging from nonprofit sheltering homeless adults to an innovative cooling accessory that assists construction workers combat extreme heat stress; as well as those fighting injustice within communities and society at large. They demonstrated how resilience of human spirit prevails even during difficult circumstances.
Participants of the HK Global Development Prize not only win a cash prize but also gain valuable training opportunities and networking with experts and entrepreneurs from all over the world. In addition, their projects and ideas may also be showcased to the public; furthermore, winning entries have the chance to secure extra perks such as internship opportunities with one of the contest sponsors.
The Hong Kong Prize is open to all secondary school students enrolled in Hong Kong who are nominated by their teachers to take part. Once nominated, students can submit up to three works online before the submission deadline; judges will select a shortlist of entries before awarding one with the Judges’ Prize; while one runner-up will receive an HK$8,000 scholarship award.
Every entry undergoes a rigorous review process conducted professionally and objectively by professionals, using an independent review procedure designed to ensure no organisation or individual exerts undue influence on evaluation. Technological innovation or scientific research eligible for awards must have been carried out primarily within Hong Kong or by universities, industry-education-research bases and institutes established by Hong Kong higher education institutions in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area universities or institutes.
This prize, presented by the Sovereign Art Foundation, seeks to provide Hong Kong students with an international platform and encourage them to express themselves creatively through art. Thirty shortlisted works were auctioned off during a gala event on May 17, and all proceeds will go toward supporting art-related charitable initiatives sponsored by the Foundation.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club is committed to supporting the development of Hong Kong athletes through the Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme, offering cash incentives to top performers at major games like the World University Games and Olympic/Paralympic Games. Since 2012, this scheme has been in effect. Furthermore, HK Jockey Club will continue supporting establishment of an Official Development Assistance programme on mainland China while simultaneously expanding global development efforts.
