This year’s Newspaper Society of Hong Kong competition brought in 617 entries from 12 Chinese and English language newspapers throughout Hong Kong. Edmond Tang’s photo showing a child receiving a gift at a marathon was declared the winning entry and awarded with a gold medal. Prizes were also given out for supporting their runners’ families during the marathon race, with newspaper industry hopes that continuing to promote and bring new people into sport can bring tourism benefits. It will take place on February 12. Attracting runners from all over the world, this event has drawn international participants. Top male and female finishers will each receive 10 Hong Kong dollars as the monetary prize and plaques at an awards ceremony to commemorate their accomplishments. In 2018 alone, 485 participants attended this race – expected to become even more intense competition this year! Professional athletes could increase participation this year, leading to more participants and an expanded crowd at the awards ceremony. This would be beneficial to the local economy by drawing more tourists and stimulating economic development; furthermore, this may cement its reputation as a world-class sports city while simultaneously improving quality marathon organization and promotion efforts.
