Hong Kong Heritage Museum has unveiled the Hong Kong Prize to encourage young people to investigate and research China and Hong Kong history in the last century. There are five categories, with the main prize of HK$100,000. Also up for consideration are best student essay and exhibition categories; children from kindergarten through university may enter these competitions – winning entries will be published on Heritage Museum website.

On Sunday evening at a ceremony held in Hong Kong Museum, winners of the Hong Kong Prizes were announced at an awards ceremony. These prestigious awards honour students and teachers for their achievements while drawing attention to Hong Kong’s unique historical place within global communities.

Ten winners were selected from among the entries submitted in the main category and awarded an HK Prize, established to honor former professor George B. Endacott who played an instrumental role in reestablishing the Department of History after World War II.

Apart from the main prize, other awards were also distributed: merit awards – “The Trembling Ground”, won by Diocesan Girls’ School; and Cheung Chau Government Secondary School won for their study on China-Hong Kong relations: A Centennial History of Chinese General Chamber of Commerce.

The Chairman’s Sprint Prize (formerly Chairman’s Trophy) is an international Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged four years or older covering 1200 metres at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong. Established in 1992 and held annually since 2000 when elevated to Group 1 status. Prior to 2000 it was known as both Chairman’s Challenge Cup and Hong Kong Sprint Championship.

Hongkongers will have an opportunity to win an impressive HK$188 million (US$24.2 million) in the largest Mark Six Lunar New Year snowball draw on February 2. The prize fund for Triple Trio jackpot has been increased to HK$180 million, making a single winning unit of just HK$10 worth enough to claim the entire amount. Furthermore, Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool also provides an extra prize pool worth an additional HK$2.8 million.

Prize money for the race will be deposited into a pool for First Division racing horses to share equally, except winnings of top three finishers who receive additional awards. The remaining funds will be donated to the Hong Kong Jockey Club charity fund to assist disadvantaged children. Furthermore, seven additional races are scheduled throughout February for use of this unified pool. From January 25-28, interested individuals can purchase tickets from Hong Kong Jockey Club’s outlets and official lottery website. Tickets will also be on sale at Hong Kong Airport Terminal 3C concourse as well as major retail chains’ e-ticketing counters; more details regarding prize funds can be found there.
