What is a Singapore Prize?

Singapore prizes are awards bestowed upon someone or something for accomplishing notable achievements, usually including ceremonies and financial rewards; special recognition or other perks may also be included as part of these rewards. Prince Charles recently hinted that the third annual awards ceremony for his Earthshot Prize will take place later this year in Singapore. Launched in 2020, this prize aims to encourage optimism regarding urgent environmental challenges by uniting innovative projects designed to tackle them.

Five winners will each be given a prize of PS1 Million (S$1.67m) to scale up their environmental solutions. Finalists will be announced in November, while an awards ceremony featuring world-class musicians and artists is planned.

The NUS Singapore History Prize is an biennial book award that honors outstanding published works on Singaporean history. The prize welcomes writings that explore various perspectives and themes related to history’s impact on society, with submissions welcome from established as well as new authors from Singapore or elsewhere worldwide. Neither time periods, themes, nor fields of study are restricted for consideration – any aspect of history could be included as it covers any part of our nation’s past!

Runners-up will each receive S$20,000 while the winning author will be honored with a trophy, certificate and cash prize of S$30,000. Books published after 2023 must have strong connections to Singapore either via an author who resides here or by having strong narrative elements that clearly point towards its location; it must also be book length and published with an authorized Singapore publisher.

This year’s prize went to a team from the National University of Singapore that had developed a new technique for visualising human poses from video and photo data, allowing computers to reconstruct bodies to gain a better understanding of movement and gesture. This technology could potentially have applications in robotics as well as healthcare.

SG Breakthrough Prize: S$500,000 in Seed Funding and Other Rewards

In its second year, the Government of Singapore and NTUC Income have presented the SG Breakthrough Prize as an incentive for young entrepreneurs to innovate within healthcare, education, or social enterprise fields. It serves as a global multi-disciplinary innovation competition with entries coming from all corners of the world.

Usually given at special ceremonies, winning students receive a monetary prize, plaque and certificate from their university as part of this honorable recognition that may also open doors to scientific conferences for them and increase public awareness of their work.

Nazanin will receive the Sydney Peace Prize later this year at an event hosted by Lord Mayor Clover Moore. This landmark occasion aims to gather Nobel laureates, world-leading scientists, policy makers, youth and thought leaders together to explore global issues that affect us all and increase dialogue between scientists and non-scientists regarding how best to work together on solving them.

This year marks the second time the Sydney Peace Prize has been bestowed upon an individual for their tireless activism and advocacy for human and women’s rights in Iran. We are honored that she will visit Sydney City to accept this prestigious honour!
