The Sidney Prize For Undergraduate Students

Sidney Prize Scholarships for undergraduate students honor outstanding academic achievement within specific units or programs of study. Students are nominated by their faculty members and successful candidates receive $1000 awards which are recorded on their transcripts. Many prizes also provide opportunities to present research at conferences and other events; to apply, complete an application that details your academic achievements as well as any personal characteristics or attributes you possess.

This prize recognizes a graduating female engineering student at UHI who has shown both academic excellence and personal attributes, such as outstanding teamwork. It is open to any UHI female engineering students who have passed their BEng on any of our engineering programmes, in memory of Dr. Sidney Black who personified all that this award stands for – inspiring new generations of engineers to follow their passion wherever their dreams may lead them.

Additionally, several of the Sydney Taylor winners have been featured on AJL’s mock award blog The Sydney Taylor Shmooze, with readers being able to access a complete list of 2025 winners and finalists on the Sydney Taylor Award Committee page as well as ordering gold or silver seals to place on copies of these titles or purchasing an official Book Award poster.
